Dr. Musonza performs complex liver and pancreas resections as well as minimally invasive weight loss procedures, paraesophageal hernia repair, hiatal hernia repair, and broad-spectrum general surgery. He has extensive experience in managing primary liver cancer, benign liver masses, metastatic colon cancer, and neuroendocrine cancer affecting the liver. Additionally, he is trained in using hepatic artery infusion pumps for advanced liver cancer management.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Dr. Musonza earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing with a biology minor from Lander University in South Carolina. Prior to earning his medical degree at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Minnesota, he worked as an ICU nurse in North Carolina, gaining invaluable experience in critical care.
Dr. Musonza completed his general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was honored as Chief Resident of the Year by the Michael E. DeBakey surgical faculty. He also received the Golden Scalpel Award from the Department of Emergency Medicine for his excellent communication skills, efficiency, and professionalism. Following his residency, he joined Colorado Springs Surgical Associates (CSSA) as a trauma, acute care, and general surgeon.
After several years in practice, Dr. Musonza pursued advanced training, completing a subspecialty fellowship in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at the Cleveland Medical Center through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He subsequently rejoined CSSA, specializing in hepatobiliary, bariatric, and general surgery.
Dr. Musonza has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters in the fields of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, trauma, and general surgery. His scholarly contributions have advanced knowledge and practices within these specialties.
